The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh has started a scheme for old people. The goal of this scheme is to make the elderly people self-reliant. Those whose age is 60 years or more can take advantage of this scheme. They will not need to depend on anyone. Under this scheme the government will provide assistance to the financially weak persons. Old people will be given pension by the government so that they can earn their living.

The Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, jointly funded by the Government of India and the State Government, is operating since 1994 with the objective of providing financial assistance in the form of pension to the old people of the state through social welfare. Under the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme, BPL people of the age group of 60 years or more. It is permissible to give pension to the elderly people included in the list 2002, at the rate of Rs.500/- per month per beneficiary, in two half-yearly installments through their bank accounts.

From 01.04.2011, Rs.200/- per beneficiary as central share and Rs.100/- per month as state share is being given to eligible beneficiaries in the age group of 60 years to 79 years. The amount of pension is being given by the Government of India from 01.04.2011 to the beneficiaries of the age group of 80 years and above in the form of central share of Rs.500/- per beneficiary.

Both the Uttar Pradesh government and the state government together are taking forward this scheme. Under this scheme, the government is providing financial assistance of Rs.500/-. Earlier, the benefit of this scheme had to go to the Social Welfare Department. But now it is not so, the government has now made this scheme online from 01 April 2016. Now anyone can apply online sitting at home. If we talk about Uttar Pradesh, at present 38,25,688 senior citizens are getting the benefit of this scheme in the state.

Eligibility for Old Age Pension Scheme

• Applicant should be a native of Uttar Pradesh.
• The age of the applicant should be 60 years or more.
• The applicant should not be a beneficiary of any other such scheme.
• The name of the applicant should be in the BPL list of 2002.

Old Age Pension Scheme Amount

The Government of Uttar Pradesh will provide financial assistance of Rs.500/- to old people under this scheme with the help of the Central Government. So that he does not depend on anyone.

Payment Process for Old Age Pension Scheme

Under the scheme, the government will give pension to old people in two installments in 01 year. The first installment will come between April and September and the second installment will come between October and March.

Selection process after application in old age pension scheme

• The beneficiaries of the old age pension scheme are selected through the Gram Panchayat in rural areas and through the Deputy Collector / City Magistrate in urban areas.
• The proposal sent by the Gram Panchayat is sent to the District Social Welfare Officer’s office through the Block Development Officer’s office.
• After that the documents are verified.
• If the documents are correct then the pension is transferred to the applicant’s account.
• Verification of the beneficiaries of old age pension scheme is done every year in May-June.
