The transgender ID card application form is now available on the official website transgender.dosje.gov.in. People can now apply for a Gender Certificate online at the newly launched National Portal for Transgender Persons. All those interested transgenders who want to get their personal identity card can fill the registration form now. The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment, Central Government has launched this portal to help members of the transgender community to apply online for certificates and I-cards.

Transgender applicants can now obtain their Identity Card (I Card) without any physical interface and without visiting any office. Through the portal, candidates can fill the Transgender ID Card Application Form and even monitor the status of their application which ensures transparency in the process.

Online Application for Transgender Certificate and Identity Card

Below is the complete procedure to fill Transgender ID Card Online Application Form:-

  • First of all you have to visit the official National Portal of Transgender http://transgender.dosje.gov.in/ will go on.
  • On the homepage, “Don’t Have an Account – Register Here” Click the link
  • The Transgender ID Card Online Registration Form will appear as follows:-

  • Afterwards, login to the homepage of the National Portal for Transgender Persons through the link http://transgender.dosje.gov.in. The login page will appear as below:-

  • Applicants are sent to their E-mail ID” Username” And “Password” and click on the login button.
  • A dashboard for obtaining a gender certificate will appear.

  • In the new window, select the category as “Transgender Certificate and Identity Card” to open the Transgender ID Card Application Form below:-

  • Here applicants can enter their details like state, district, name, parent/guardian name, e-mail id, mobile number, gender assigned at birth, gender requested, date of birth, educational qualification, source of income, and address You can fill the details.
  • Applicants will also have to upload any one of the following documents – Aadhar Card / PAN Card / Voter ID Card / Date of Birth Certificate / Ration Card / Bank Passbook / Passport / MGNREGA Card / Caste Certificate.

The issuing authorities are under strict timelines to process the applications and issue certificates and identity cards without any necessary delay. Once the Transgender Certificate and ID Card is issued, applicants can download them from the portal itself. There is an option to “Download” on the National Portal for Transgender Persons.

In case of delay or rejection, the applicant has the option to submit complaints through the portal, which are forwarded to the person concerned and the same will be resolved at the earliest. The National Portal for Transgender Persons is an end-to-end online process. Members of the transgender community can avail the services offered by the portal from anywhere.

The issuing authorities can view the number of applications issued to them through the dashboard of the National Portal for Transgender Persons provided to them. The concerned authorities can also view the approved applications and the applications which are pending or have been stopped so that they can take necessary action from their end.

The National Portal for Transgenders will help many people from the community to come forward and get the Transgender Certificate and Identity Card as per their self-identification which is an important provision of the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2019.

Garima Gere – Shelter Home for Transgender Persons

Central government minister Thaawarchand Gehlot also inaugurated a “Garima Grie – Shelter Home for Transgender Persons” in Vadodara, which will be run in collaboration with Lakshya Trust. Shelter Home aims to provide shelter to transgender persons with basic amenities like shelter, food, medical care and recreational facilities. In addition, it will provide support for capacity-building/skill development of individuals in the community so that they can lead a life of dignity and respect. The scheme of “Shelter Home for Transgender Persons” includes the following:-

  • skill development opportunities
  • Total
  • meditation / prayer
  • physical fitness
  • library facilities
  • legal support
  • Technical advice for the gender change and surgery
  • Capacity building of trans-friendly organizations
  • Employment and skill-building support

This is a big step taken to improve the conditions of transgender persons. The central government has identified 10 cities for setting up 13 shelter homes and in collaboration with selected 13 community-based organizations in the country on a pilot basis, to extend facilities to transgender persons.

Cities include Vadodara, New Delhi, Patna, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, Kolkata, Manipur, Chennai, Raipur, Mumbai, etc. Under this scheme, a minimum of 25 transgender persons will be rehabilitated in each shelter home identified by the ministry. This is a pilot project and if successful, similar schemes will be extended to other parts of the country.
