Kanya Vidya Dhan Yojana UP is a financial assistance scheme for girl child education launched by the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Under this scheme, the UP government provides financial assistance of Rs 30,000 to every girl student who has qualified in the 12th board examination.

Kanya Vidya Dhan Yojana UP has been started for those girls who are getting education with the help of Women and Child Development Department. The Uttar Pradesh government will provide a scholarship of Rs 30,000 to all the girls who have passed class 12th from CBSE or UP state board. The financial assistance will help 12th pass girls to continue their higher education.

Only girl students of UP Board, State Council of Secondary Education, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Indian Certificate of Secondary Education, UP Madrasa Parishad and UP Sanskrit Education Council can apply for this scheme.

Kanya Vidya Dhan Yojana

Former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav had launched the Kanya Vidya Dhan Yojana UP to provide assistance to meritorious girl students to enable them to pursue higher education. Meritorious girls living in rural or urban areas will get scholarship after passing 12th. The assistance amount will be given to those girl students who are unable to continue their education due to financial constraints.

Note – This scheme was started by former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav for the welfare of meritorious girl students. Current CM Yogi Adityanath has not started Kanya Vidya Dhan Yojana UP instead of his government. Already running another scheme for girls, which is named UP Kanya Sumangala Yojana.

UP Kanya Dhan Yojana Eligibility Criteria

The main objective of the scheme is to encourage girl students for higher education and to support them financially. This scheme is dedicated to girls from poor families who are not able to get higher education due to lack of funds. To be eligible for the scheme, the girl student must have qualified in her Intermediate or equivalent examinations. To become eligible for the Kanya Vidya Dhan Yojana UP, the complete eligibility criteria are given below:-

  • Applicant girl should be resident of Uttar Pradesh.
  • Applicant student must have passed 12th from CBSE or UP State Board.
  • He must have qualified in class 12th.
  • The annual family income (from all sources) of meritorious girl students should not exceed Rs.48,000 per annum.

Preference will be given to below poverty line (BPL) category girl students who have already applied for UP Kanya Dhan Yojana.

Amendment in Kanya Vidya Dhan Yojana UP

Earlier, only the girl students of UP board were eligible for this scheme, but the state government has amended the scheme to include more boards and institutes. Kanya Vidya Dhan Yojana now covers the meritorious pass outs of class XII of State Council of Secondary Education, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Indian Certificate of Secondary Education, UP Madrasa Parishad and UP Sanskrit Shiksha Parishad.
