Central Government has launched Digital Police Portal for the online requests for Passport Verification, Online Cyber ​​Crime Complaint Registration, Servants Verification etc. The portal aims to create and maintain a single centralized national database of crimes and criminals by integrating the CCTNS project with the e-courts and e-prisons databases.

The Digital Police Portal which is now live on digitalpolice.gov.in is being designed and maintained by the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems Project (CCTNS). Out of the total 16,671 police stations, 13,775 have been enabled in the digital platform to record 100% of the data in the software.

The digital portal will allow police and central investigative agencies to conduct searches and reports from the national database of crimes and criminals. This database can be used by the state police and central investigative agencies to check the records or any information against any criminal for inspection purposes.

Digital Police Portal – A Smart Policing Initiative

  • Digital Police Portal is a platform for citizens to register complaints related to crime online and verify for potential employees (for domestic help, drivers etc.), tenants or any other purpose. Citizens can also demand authentication of their own ancestors.
  • The portal will provide access to authorized persons to access the national database of criminal records for the purpose of investigation, policymaking, data analysis, research and providing citizen services.
  • The portal consolidates data on current and past crime incidents across the country. This data includes information relating to persons accused or convicted in criminal cases as well as theft/recovery of property, missing persons, recovered/unidentified bodies, etc. This information will help speed up police investigations to solve crimes as well as provide confirmed verification services to citizens.
  • The portal also presents various thematic reports of crime incidents across the country to facilitate policy analysis and intervention. For example, the data in this portal can generate reports related to crime against women and children, social trends of crimes, patterns of groups related to a particular age or educational qualification and so on, crimes that are more prevalent in certain areas. can.
  • In order to protect the privacy of the persons concerned and for national security reasons, crime and criminal data and reports may only be searched by authorized police officers. Responses will be provided via email to citizens seeking criminal retaliation verification services.
  • DIGITAL POLICE Portal is a smart policing initiative of the Ministry of Home Affairs, given by the Hon’ble Prime Minister to provide services to citizens and assist in the efficient police investigation.

Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) Project

The Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) project were envisaged by the Ministry of Home Affairs in 2009 to link all police stations under a common application software with the objective of providing investigation, data analysis and citizen services. Since 2004, Mantralaya Home Affairs was running as a component of a project- Common Integrated Police Application (CIPA) “Modernization of State Police Forces (MPF)” which aimed to computerize crime records in police stations.

Realizing the need to establish a national database of criminal records to facilitate research and policymaking, CCTNS was conceived. The total sanctioned outlay of the project is Rs 2000 crore. Under this project, the Central Government is providing funds to States/UTs for hardware, CCTNS software, connectivity, system integration, data digitization, project management and manpower training. A national-level portal “Digital Police Portal” is being launched as part of the project for states, central investigative agencies and citizens. They will be able to access search and report on National Crime Records as per their authority.

About National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB)

  • NCRB also compiles and publishes National Crime Statistics i.e. Crime in India, Accidental Deaths and Suicides, Prison Statistics and Finger Prints. These publications serve as prime reference points by policymakers, police, criminals, researchers and the media both in India and abroad.
  • NCRB has also called for various IT-based public services like Vahan Samanvay (online motor vehicle matching), Talaash (matching of missing persons and dead bodies). In addition, the NCRB also maintains the Counterfeit Currency Information and Management System (FICN) and the Color Portrait Building System (CBPS).
  • NCRB has recently received the “Digital India Award 2016-Silver Open Data Championship” from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Government of India for uploading crime statistics from 1965 on the website.
