Himachal Pradesh government has launched Atal School Vardi Yojana for the students in all state run schools. Under this free uniform scheme, all the students of class 1st to 12th will get these free uniforms. Free school uniforms are provided to the students for the financial years 2018-19, 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22. In Atal Vardi Yojana 2018-19, around 8,30,945 students of classes 1-12 had received 2 sets of free school uniforms with an outlay of Rs 73.5 crore.

Under Atal Vardi Yojna, students of class 1st, 6th and 9th are also being provided with school bags in addition to two uniforms in a year. As of 26 August 2020, around 2,56,514 students of classes 1, 6 and 9 had received school bags with an estimated expenditure of Rs 7.84 crore. This scheme will go a long way in boosting confidence among the children of poor families. The Free Uniform Scheme was named after former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee because of his special love for the hill people.

HP Free School Uniform Scheme – Atal School Vardi Yojana
Himachal Pradesh government had already started procurement, supply and distribution of school uniforms to school students of class 1st to 12th under Atal School Vardi Yojana. These uniforms are being provided through Himachal Pradesh State Civil Supplies Corporation to the students in the state schools for the years 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21.

As mentioned above, around 8.3 lakh students of classes 1-12 had already received 2 sets of free school uniforms worth Rs 73.5 crore in 2018-19. Besides, around 2.5 lakh students of classes 1, 6, 9 had already received bags worth Rs 7.84 crore. The decision to implement the Himachal Pradesh Atal Vardi Yojna was taken in a meeting of the Council of Ministers held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur at Dharamsala. The objective of the Free Uniform Scheme is to bring about uniformity among the students in the classes by providing the same uniform to all irrespective of their economic status.

Other decisions taken in the cabinet meeting in Himachal Pradesh
In the cabinet committee meeting held in 2018-19, the government had also approved the execution of 100 MW Sorang Hydroelectric Project at Kinnaur to M/s Greenco East Coast Power Projects Pvt Ltd. Ltd. for execution. This was done by allowing transfer of 100% equity shares in Himachal Sorang Power Pvt Ltd in favor of Greenco Group Company i.e. Greenco East Coast Power Projects Pvt Ltd. Ltd. Along with Atal School Vardi Yojana, this decision was taken for the overall development of Himachal Pradesh State.
Earlier, the State Government had set up Chief Minister Helpline Number (Mukhyamantri Seva Sankalp Helpline Number) to proactively reach out to the citizens and facilitate them by providing the helpline facility through the call center of the citizens. It is to ensure that a transparent and accountable system where roles and responsibilities are defined for each stakeholder. In addition, every citizen should have a single window operation for information, demands, suggestions and complaints.
