The Government of India launched the historic and revolutionary recruitment scheme for Indian youth to serve in the armed forces under the name Agneepath. The youth enrolled under Agneepath scheme will be known as Agniveer. Through this scheme 46,000 firefighters will be recruited this year. Agneepath allows dutiful and motivated youth to serve in the armed forces for a period of four years. During these 4 years, Agniveers will be trained by the Armed Forces in the skills required on the battlefield.

What is Agniveer?
The youth selected under Agneepath scheme will be classified as Agniveer. Agniveers will be provided an opportunity to apply for permanent enrollment in the Armed Forces after a period of 4 years. Youth falling in the age group of 17.5 years to 23 years (revised upper age limit) who have been shown patriotism, teamwork, increased physical fitness, loyalty to the country and availability of trained personnel to promote national security in times of external threats are in favor of. Internal hazards and natural calamities can be implemented to become Agniveer through Agneepath scheme.
Agneepath Scheme Description- Purpose
The broad objectives of the Agneepath/Agneepath scheme are-
- To raise the youth profile of the Armed Forces so that they are at their best at all times with increased risk taking ability.
- To imbibe among the youth the ethos, courage, commitment and teamwork of the Armed Forces.
- To impart competency and qualities such as discipline, motivation, mobility and work skills so that the youth remain as an asset.
- To provide opportunities to the youth who want to serve the nation in uniform for a short period of time.
- To attract young talent among the society to effectively exploit, adopt and utilize the emerging modern technologies with advanced technological frontiers taking advantage of the technical institutions of the country.

Candidates in the age group of 17.5 Years to 23 Years (Revised) are eligible to take advantage of Agneepath Scheme for Indian Army Recruitment.

Agneepath Scheme Salary
The salary of Agniveers in the first year will be around Rs 4.76 lakh per annum which will increase to Rs 6.92 lakh per annum for the final year. Check out the monthly package, salary in hand, contribution to Agniveer Corpus Fund and corpus fund by Government of India from the data tabulated below. ‘Service Fund’ will be exempted from income tax.

For Agniveer, the package of about 4.76 lakhs in the first year and by the fourth year it will increase to 6.92 lakhs, 30 percent of the salary will go to the Agniveer Corps Fund and the same amount will be given by the government. On completion of service, Agniveer will get Rs 11.71 lakh and no tax will be levied on it. After 4 years of service in the army, the youth will get more opportunities for the future. The best youths from amongst Agniveers will be kept in the army and other youths will be decommissioned after 4 years.

Selection Process
Candidates will be selected on the basis of physical test, medical test and training programme.

Firefighters will have to fulfill the prescribed medical eligibility conditions for enrollment in the IAF applicable to the respective categories/trades. No permanent lower medical grade Agniveer shall be eligible to continue his appointment after being placed in the medical grade.
Uniform
To encourage and recognize the dynamism of the youth, a distinctive insignia will be worn by the Agniveers on their uniforms during the period of their engagement.
Honours and awards
Agniveer will be entitled to honors and awards as per the extant guidelines governing the subject for the Indian Air Force, Army and Navy.
Training
When enrolled, individuals will be provided military training based on organizational needs.
Evaluation
IAF will endeavor to maintain a centralized high quality online database of ‘Agnivers’ and will follow a transparent common assessment methodology. An objective evaluation system will be introduced to ensure fair and unbiased evaluation. The skills acquired by the Agnivers will be systematically recorded. Comprehensive guidelines will be drawn up before the first batch of Agniveers are inducted and will be circulated subsequently with any changes.
