Latest Update : 136 Shree Dhanwantri Generic Medical Stores have been established to provide generic medicines and surgical items to the citizens at reasonable prices. Under this scheme, so far 5 lakh 92 thousand citizens have benefited by giving a discount of Rs 10 crore on 17 crores 92 lakh market value medicines.

The Government of Chhattisgarh has started the Shree Dhanwantri Generic Medical Store scheme to provide medicines at affordable rates to poor people. The new CG Shree Dhanwantri Generic Medical Store scheme is another effort of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel-led state government to make healthcare accessible to the poorest people in the state. CM Bhupesh Baghel launched the CG Dhanwantri Generic Medical Store scheme from his official residence through video conferencing. CG Shree Dhanwantri Generic Medical Store scheme is now started where people will get discounts between 50.09% to 71% on MRP of medicines.

Coast Guard Shree Dhanwantri Generic Medical Store Scheme launched

CM Bhupesh Baghel has launched the CG Shree Dhanwantri Medical Store scheme on 20 October 2021 (Wednesday). 84 generic drug shops were opened across the state on the day of the inauguration of the scheme. Generic medicines will be available at 50 to 71 percent less cost at Shree Dhanwantri Generic Medical Store. Addressing the inaugural function of the Shri Dhanwantri Generic Medical Store Scheme virtually from his official residence, Chief Minister Baghel said that the State Government is making constant efforts to provide costly health services to the poorest of the poor and to achieve this goal. Several schemes have been launched.

On this occasion, the Chief Minister appealed to the doctors and pharmacists to contribute in the promotion of generic medicines and requested the public representatives to popularize the Dhanwantri scheme.

Implementation of Dhanwantri Generic Medical Store Scheme

The Urban Administration and Development Department of the Government of Chhattisgarh will implement the CG Shree Dhanwantri Generic Medical Store Scheme. Under the Dhanwantri Yojana, about 188 medical stores will be opened in 169 urban bodies of the state.

It will be mandatory for these medical stores to sell 251 types of generic medicines and 27 surgical products. Apart from this, the forest department’s herbal products, cosmetics, and baby food, etc. will also be sold in these shops.

Need for CG Shree Dhanwantri Generic Medical Store Scheme

CM Bhupesh Baghel headed the Chhattisgarh government. It is implementing several programs in the health sector to improve the quality of life of the people. The rising cost of health services has become a major cause of concern for everyone in the world. People often had to bear the brunt of debt due to medical expenses. So to provide some relief on the cost of medicines, the State Govt. CG Dhanwantri Generic Medical Store scheme has been launched.

With the goal of universal health coverage, the state government has launched Mukhyamantri Haat Bazar Clinic Yojna and Mukhyamantri Shahari Slum Health Scheme in urban areas to provide better health services in remote areas. Dai-Didi Mobile Clinic scheme has also been launched for women and adolescent girls.

The opposition BJP alleged that the state government was promising only a 50 percent discount on medicines under the Dhanwantri scheme, which is not enough. This is because people are already getting discounts ranging from 70% to 80% in drug prices at Jan Aushadhi Kendras.
