Tripura Solar Study Lamp Scheme 2022

Tripura government is going to launch Solar Study Lamp (SSL) scheme for the students. In this Tripura Solar Study Lamp Scheme, the state government will provide 6,00,000 eco-friendly solar study lamps to the students of poor families. Each student can get these solar power lamps for a token amount of just Rs.10. The scheme will run as per the SSL scheme of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE).

In the first phase of Tripura Solar Study Lamp Scheme, 3 lakh solar study lamps will be distributed while the remaining 3,00,000 will be given in the second phase. 80% of the fund for Tripura Solar Lamp Scheme will be borne by the Central Government and the rest will be borne by the State Government. Tripura Deputy CM Jishnu Dev Varma introduced the SSL supply at a function held in Vishramganj, West Tripura last year on 11th March 2020. Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) is the state nodal agency for implementing the Solar Lamp Scheme.

In Tripura Solar Study Lamp Scheme, the government will take a token amount of Rs.10 from the beneficiary student. In the first phase, the state government will provide SSL to 3 lakh poor students and in the second phase the government will supply an additional 3 lakh solar study lamps. The state government had already approached MNRE for sanctioning over 3 lakh SSLs for the northeastern state. This is because in some tribal and remote villages round the clock power supply is not ensured.

Objective of Solar Study Lamp Scheme

Solar Study Lamp is an application of solar energy and provides an ideal solution for students to have access to light in the evening for their studies. Solar lamps offer a viable solution to homes that have traditionally relied on kerosene lamps as their primary source of light. Solar lamps are advantageous given their cost per unit of light, high efficiency to brightness and the range of illumination they provide.
Apart from education, the other objective of the Solar Study Lamp Scheme is to empower women financially and most importantly, curb dependence on kerosene and prevent indoor pollution.

How Solar Study Lamp Works

Solar study lamps have a photovoltaic module that converts sunlight into electricity. Solar access to India’s 300 days of sunshine as their sole input, solar study lamps provide an attractive and scalable solution for Tripura’s under-served communities. This Tripura Solar Study Lamp Scheme will benefit the school students for their intensive study and will ensure that the students get the facility of evening light for their studies during this monsoon.

A total of 519 solar study lamps were distributed by the Deputy CM of Tripura at the inauguration ceremony of the SSL scheme. The present Tripura government is moving forward to provide the best possible education to the students.
