Rajasthan Free Sanitary Pad Yojana 2022

The Rajasthan government has launched an ambitious Menstrual Hygiene Scheme (MHS) or UDAN scheme to provide free sanitary napkins to around 1.2 crore women. In this free sanitary pad scheme, the state government has started distribution of free sanitary napkins to girl children on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Rajasthan Free Sanitary Napkin Scheme will promote menstrual hygiene among girls. In this article, we will tell you about the complete details of the Udaan Yojana or the Free Sanitary Napkin Scheme in a step-wise manner.

Rajasthan government has started distribution of free sanitary napkins under the UDAN scheme from 19th November 2021. Special awareness campaigns focusing on women’s health will be conducted through women’s self-help groups and social and non-governmental organizations. Under the initiative, free sanitary napkins will be given through schools, colleges, and Anganwadis in a phased manner.

Rajasthan UDAN scheme launched

Launching the Rajasthan UDAN scheme, the Chief Minister said, “60% of the women-related diseases occurring in the state are due to non-compliance of menstrual hygiene. Keeping all these things in mind, the UDAN scheme is an innovative initiative of the Government of Rajasthan. A total of 1.20 crore women in the age group of 10 to 45 years will be benefitted from the UDAN scheme. This is a unique initiative of Rajasthan on such a large scale in the country itself.

The first phase of flight planning

200 crore has been given to the department in the first phase of the UDAN scheme in Rajasthan. In the first phase, 28-30 lakh women will be benefited by this UDAN scheme.

The second phase of the Rajasthan UDAN scheme

The next phase of the UDAN scheme i.e. the second phase will start in March 2022. A special campaign will be launched to encourage adolescent girls and women to use sanitary napkins as well as create a conducive environment for their dignity, and safety and to bring awareness related to menstruation.

Implementation of MHS Free Sanitary Napkin Scheme in Rajasthan

The Women and Child Development Department, Rajasthan will be the nodal agency for the Udaan scheme announced by Chief Minister Gehlot in the budget of the current financial year. The state government has started the free sanitary napkin scheme to make all the women of the state aware of personal hygiene and to prevent various diseases. The Rajasthan UDAN scheme will be implemented in collaboration with the Medical and Health Department, School and College Education, Technical and Higher Education, Tribal Area Development and Panchayati Raj and Rural Development departments, the statement said.

Two brand ambassadors will be made at the state level and one each at the district level for effective implementation of the Rajasthan Udan Yojana. Voluntary organizations and brand ambassadors associated with the scheme will be rewarded for their commendable work. The napkins will be made by Rajasthan Health Services Corporation Limited (RMSCL).

Objectives of Free Sanitation Napkin Scheme in Rajasthan

Menstruation is a natural process and previous governments have mostly been shy on the subject. Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot has announced this Menstrual Hygiene Scheme (MHS) in Budget 2021 in February. This was the first paperless budget presented on 24 February 2021. Around 1.2 crore women in the age group of 10 to 45 years can avail this Rajasthan Free Sanitary Pad Scheme. The state government has started this free sanitary napkin scheme in Rajasthan for the following reasons:-

• To spread awareness about cleanliness and promote the distribution of sanitary napkins among women.
• To increase access and use of high-quality sanitary napkins to adolescent girls in rural areas.
• Ensuring the safe disposal of sanitary pads in an eco-friendly manner.
• Women can be protected from various menstrual hygiene-related ailments by using sanitary napkins.

Features of Rajasthan Free Swachhta Pad Scheme

The important features and salient features of this Menstrual Hygiene Scheme (MHS) scheme are as follows:-

• 1.2 crore women in the age group of 15 to 45 years can take advantage of this health scheme.
• The state government has made budgetary provisions for Menstrual Hygiene Scheme (MHS). The government will distribute sanitary napkins and spread the cleanliness message among women.
• According to the Nation Family Health Survey Report (2015-16), only 55% of women (15-45 years) are using hygiene safety methods during their menstruation.
• The situation is slightly better in urban areas as compared to rural areas. About 78% of women in urban areas and 50% of women in rural areas use sanitary napkins, locally prepared pads, and tampons as methods of hygiene.
• As per the survey report, 45% of women in the age group of 15 to 24 years in the state are at high risk of being exposed to menstrual-related diseases.
• Such women may be exposed to fungal infections, urinary tract infections, reproductive tract infections, and other health ailments.
• So to save women from menstrual-related diseases, CM Ashok Gehlot has announced the free Swachhata Pads scheme.

Rajasthan government has started this revolutionary scheme for the welfare of women. In the first phase of the plan, DEW teams will conduct sensitization about menstrual anxiety. In the next phase, the government will distribute sanitary pads to women in schools, colleges, Anganwadi centers, and health centers.
